Achievement Centers for their Foundation of Friends Luncheon

July 13th, 2008

More than 200 guests joined the Achievement Centers for their Foundation of Friends Luncheon held at Quail Ridge Country Club in Boynton Beach.

The luncheon, designed to be a catalyst to introduce new friends and supporters to the Centers, raised more than $21,000. The Auburn Group of Delray Beach was the title Sponsor of the event.  Proceeds benefit the Centers’ programs that serve low-income children and families.

The luncheon was a community outreach effort to share the history and future of the Achievement Centers.  Former Delray Beach Mayor Jeff Perlman emceed the luncheon and spoke about the Centers’ challenges and successes in the Delray Beach community.

Brian Hinners, president of the Auburn Group, spoke briefly on how closely aligned their mission is with the Achievement Centers - which is to help families in need.

Nancy Hurd, CEO of the Achievement Centers, discussed the many pressing issues the low-income community faces.

“The Achievement Centers have done tremendous work in the community to help many low-income families,” said Hinners.

“We are pleased to sponsor the Foundation of Friends Luncheon so more people know who they are and what they do.”

“This is clearly a program that is making strides and on the move,” said Perlman.  “Their success over the past four decades is undeniable.  They have become a valued part of our community, part of a family, and it makes all the difference in the world to the working poor in our city,” adds Perlman.

Auburn Group is a leader in providing solutions to address the need for affordable and workforce housing.  Its mission is to provide quality affordable and workforce housing where it might otherwise be unattainable, help families own their own homes and revitalize blighted areas into sustainable communities.

The Foundation of Friends co-chairs were Marjorie Ferrer from the Delray Beach Downtown Marketing Cooperative, Lula Butler, community improvement director from the city of Delray Beach and Nilsa McKinney, a prominent Delray Beach community leader.

Established in 1969, the Achievement Centers for Children & Families is a private, non-profit social services agency that serves at risk families and children in Delray Beach.  Services include affordable preschool and toddler childcare, voluntary pre-k programs, after school and extended day programs, teen program, adult education and community outreach services.

The Center’s main campus is located at 555 NW 4th Street in Delray Beach and the Beacon Center at Village Academy campus is located at 400 SW 12th Ave.  For information, call (561) 276-0520 or visit http://www.delraychild.org/.
