David J. Gury named chair of FAU Foundation

The Florida Atlantic University Foundation Board recently held its annual meeting and election of officers. David J. Gury was elected as the board’s new chair.
Serving on the Foundation’s Executive Committee are Michael Kaufman, vice chair; Bruce Allen ’71, treasurer and Cecelia James, secretary. Barry Berg will chair the investments committee; Michael Davis will chair the real estate committee; Randy Justice ’73 will chair the audit committee; Peter LoBello will chair the development committee and Virginia Miller will chair the nominating committee.
A member of the FAU Foundation board since 2007, Gury is principal of Gury Consulting, LLC, a Boca Raton firm assisting start up biotech companies in Florida.
Gury began his career in 1962 with Abbott Laboratories in Chicago. In 1984, he joined then-North American Biologicals, Inc of Miami. As CEO, Gury changed the company’s name to Nabi Biopharmaceuticals and moved the operation to Boca Raton. He retired from the firm in 2004.
The following year, he was appointed by then Governor Jeb Bush to serve on the Scripps Florida Funding Corporation board, where he is currently vice chairman.
Gury is a founder and past chairman of BioFlorida and was the founding chairman and member emeritus of the Florida Research Consortium. Gury serves on the boards of several start-up biotech firms. His wife, Karen (Seals), is an FAU alumna, class of 1989.

Joseph Collard has founded several companies including Technisource, Inc., a national technical services firm.
Brian J. Cooke is a shareholder of Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs, LLP in West Palm Beach. He graduated from Colby College and attended Brooklyn Law School and New York University School of Law.
Howard R. Cooper is vice president and treasurer of the Palm Beach Arts Corporation. He recently donated approximately 30,000 to 40,000 pounds of art supplies to FAU.
Randy Justice ’73 is a retired partner with Ernst & Young LLP in West Palm Beach. He was named outstanding alumnus from the Barry Kaye College of Business in 1993 and was the winner of the 1999 Alumni Talon Award.
Judith Teller Kaye is treasurer and a member of the Board of Governors for the Royal Palm Improvement Association, Inc., and a board member of the Friends of the Boca Raton Public Library. She is also the chair of the Boca Raton Pedestrian and Bikeway Advisory Board.
William E. Morris is the owner of Southcoast Partners, headquartered in Delray Beach. A former member of the FAU Foundation Board, Morris is an FAU Football Founder and serves on the board of the Owl Club.
Neale J. Poller ’66, is a partner with Camner, Lipsitz and Poller, P.A. Poller is past president of FAUNAA. He earned a law degree at the University of Miami.
Bob Rubin is a senior vice president and advisor for Wachovia Wealth Management, working with high net worth clients. Previously he worked for Salomon Smith Barney, Inc. Rubin is on the board of the Autism Project of Palm Beach.
Charles E. Rutherford is a founding shareholder, chairman and managing director of Rutherford Mulhall, P.A. He is on the board and is an executive committee member of the Centre for the Arts at Mizner Park. Named 2005-2006 Business Leader of the Year by the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce, Rutherford served as a Red Cross Chapter director and United Way chair.
Steven R. Sponder is a new resident of the Technology Business Incubator at FAU’s Research & Development Park. He is the founder and managing partner of Marquee Advisors Group, Inc. Prior to this job, he was a venture capital-backed CEO selected for partnerships by AOL Time Warner and Microsoft Corporation.
Rhys L. Williams is president of Tequesta BioVentures; iTherapeutics, a biotechnology company developing RNAi therapies for retinal degenerative disease and New World Angels, Inc., a member-managed angel investment group. Williams is a member of BioFlorida and serves on the boards of the University of Florida’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Leadership Florida and the South Florida Science Museum.
