The State Fire Marshal’s Office has determined that a blaze that caused an estimated half-million dollars damage to a home on NW 64th Boulevard last week was caused by an electrical problem in the walls, said Fire Rescue Division Chief Bob Nelligan.
“The origin of the fire was inside a wall between the kitchen and a media room,” he said.
Boca Raton Fire Rescue responded to the house fire in the Grand Oaks/Broken Sound development about 5 p.m. Thursday.
Nelligan said the fire was first noticed by neighbors who were walking past the home and saw smoke coming from the eaves of the two-story, 6,442 square foot home.
He said firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke inside the home and had to clear it to find the center of the fire. It was located on the first floor and had burned through a wall between two rooms, he said.
It took firefighters 20 minutes to locate and extinguish the blaze.
While crews fought the fire on the first floor, others searched for possible victims on the second floor. No one was home, officials said.
A total of 24 firefighters responded to the incident and no injuries were reported.
