The Area Agency on Aging is warning residents who are enrolled in Medicare to beware of improper marketing activities by insurance companies, agents and brokers selling Medicare Advantage and prescription drug plans.

Agency officials noted that the Medicare enrollment period runs from Nov. 15 to Dec. 31.  It’s time for people covered by the medical plan to re-evaluate coverage.

“Beware of those who will be looking to take advantage of you and your health care accounts,” the agency warned in a news release.

The agency noted that insurance companies are not permitted to provide meals, promote plans at educational seminars or sell non-health care products, among other things.
