Palm Beach County commissioners have approved agreements wherein the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) will provide traffic control in two separate Commission District 5 developments.
Commissioners said that agreements have been signed with the Saturnia Isles Homeowners Association and the Colony Preserve Homeowners Association. There is no fiscal impact for the Sheriff’s office, commissioners said, adding that traffic services would be provided “at the discretion of the sheriff.”
Commissioners also noted that should either association desire traffic services “outside of normal hours” the respective association “will be invoiced” by the PBSO for those services.
LETF Donations
Separately, commissioners approved the transfer of $126,000 from the State Law Enforcement Trust Fund (LETF) to the PBSO for community program donations.
The LETF is funded largely through the disposition of contraband and other drug related property seizures. Under Florida law, no less than 15 percent of the LETF’s previous year’s revenues must be used for the support or operation of drug treatment, drug abuse education, drug prevention, crime prevention, safe neighborhood and school resource officer programs of various non-profit organizations, commissioners said.
The current state LETF balance is $1.51 million, and no new positions are needed or any county funds required, commissioners said.
Following are the agencies to receive LETF funding from the PBSO:
· Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County, Inc; $35,000
· Lake Worth High School – Criminal Justice Academy; $5,000
· Palm Beach Recovery Coalition, Inc; $25,000
· Take Stock in Children, Inc; $50,000 The Homeless Coalition of Palm Beach County, Inc; $11,000
