Gumbo Limbo offers nature talk for children and adults

Gumbo Limbo Nature Center at 1801 N. Ocean Blvd, Boca Raton, is offering a nature talk about reptiles today from 2 to 2:30 p.m. It is open to all ages, but an adult must participate with children.
Join a naturalist for a talk about Gumbo Limbo’s resident turtles and snakes. Learn about the different species we have and some of their adaptations to the environment. Reservations are recommended (561) 338-1473. There is no fee.

Beach Treasures
March 24, 3-4:30 p.m.
Open to all ages. An adult must sign-up and participate with children. Walk the Red Reef beach in search of ocean treasures. Angel wing, sundial, spiny jewel box and fighting conch are just a few of the shells you can find on Florida’s beaches. The program includes an introductory talk about seashells and the animals that make them, a walk on the beach, and a collectible shell in good condition. Reservations required (561) 338-1473. Members, $4; non-members, $6.
Wetlands Walk
Wednesday, March 265, 9 – 10:30 a.m.
Open to all ages. An adult must sign-up and participate with children. Wakodahatchee is a man-made wetland which has become a favorite for birders and photographers. Bring your binoculars and join us for a ¾ mile guided boardwalk tour to learn more about Florida’s wetland ecosystems. Meet at the boardwalk’s entrance, located on Jog Rd., one mile north of Atlantic Ave. in Delray Beach. Reservations required (561) 338-1473. The event is free.
Night Explorers
Friday, March 28, 7 – 8:30 p.m.
Ages 7 and up. An adult must sign-up and participate with children. Look for owls, stars, bugs, things that go bump, some that glow and much more to know. Peek at the night sky though a telescope with an astronomer. Hike with creatures of the night along the flashlight illuminated boardwalk. See the tanks under a different light. Enjoy family fun in a natural setting. The astronomy program is courtesy of the Astronomical Society of the Palm Beaches. Reservations required (561) 338-1473. Members, $6; non-members, $9.
Feeding At the Tanks
Sunday-Friday, 2:30 p.m.
Saturdays, 11:30 a.m.
Open to all ages. Children must be accompanied by adult. Witness a feeding frenzy at the tanks as one of our Naturalists feed our sharks, sea turtles, and fish. No reservation required. No charge.
Volunteer Training for those age 14 to adult. Have you ever considered taking an active part in a nature center? Volunteering at Gumbo Limbo will give you the opportunity to become knowledgeable about a variety of nature indigenous to south Florida, while interacting with visitors from around the world. We offer a variety of classes for volunteers to learn more about the coastal island, hardwood hammock, and sea turtle conservation. The gift store is looking for volunteers who enjoy retail and have experience with computers. There is a mandatory, two part training session offered every month for new volunteers.
