Agency on Aging honors senior volunteers for service

More than 100 senior volunteers were honored at the Area Agency on Aging’s 17th annual Prime Time Awards breakfast.
Nominations for outstanding senior volunteers were received from
organizations and individuals throughout Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee counties.
The Shalloway & Shalloway Elder Advocate Award was presented to Frank Irby, who was selected by Governor Jeb Bush to serve on the State Advisory Council to the Department of Elder Affairs. He has been a senior volunteer for 10 years.
The VITAS Innovative Hospice Care SHINE Volunteer Award was presented to Jerry Armour, who is currently serving as an assistant local coordinator for south Palm Beach County and has
been with the SHINE Program since 2000. He provides one-on-one
assistance to Medicare beneficiaries at the Bethesda Hospital SHINE site in Boynton Beach.
The Mangrove Bay Service to Seniors Award was presented to Anna
Avello, provider relations specialist with American Eldercare. Fluent in English and Spanish, she is an ombudsman serving the elderly population in South Florida.
The Wachovia School Volunteer Award was presented to Clara Elena
Maria, who volunteers at kindergarten classrooms at Gove Elementary as a Foster Grandparent.
The Florida Power & Light Company Community Service Award was presented to Irwin Bromley.
The Humana Good Neighbor Award was presented to Vera Pryor who volunteers at the Northmore Beacon Center
