The Lake Worth Chamber of Commerce and Palm Beach County commissioners approved an agreement out of which the county will provide $10,000 toward the city’s 2008 July 4 celebration.

The event will be held July 4 at Bryant Park, commissioners said, and funding will come from District 7 Recreation Assistance Program (RAP) funds.

Wireless Node

Separately, commissioners have approved an agreement with the Town of Juno Beach for installation of a wireless Internet node at the Juno Beach Pier. The agreement is for a term of three years, with the right to three one-year extensions, and will cost Juno Beach an annual rent of $10, commissioners said.

The connection will improve wireless communications for both the Juno Beach Public Safety Department, but also for resident, said commissioners. The wireless node will be installed externally on the concession building at the west end of the pier. Dania Pier Management Corp. under a concessionaire service agreement currently operates the building; the firm has consented to the installation, commissioners said.

Other Business

In other recent business commissioners:

  • Approved a second amendment to an interlocal agreement with the City of Delray Beach for the Delray Intracoastal Park, extending the project completion date to Dec. 31, 2008, in order to allow additional time for project completion and submission of the reimbursement request to the County.  All other terms, including the funding amount of $2 million, remain the same.  Funding for the District 4 project is from the 2002 $50 Million Cultural and Recreational Facilities Bond referendum ($500,000), the Transportation Improvement Fund ($500,000), and the 2004 $50 Million Waterfront Access Bond referendum ($1 million).
  • Approved amendment six to a lease agreement on behalf of the Department of Community Services’ Migrant Program.  The program currently leases 699 sq. ft. of office space at 607 South Main Street, Unit 103, Belle Glade, as a satellite office; the amendment extends the lease term to May 31, 2011. The annual rent remains unchanged at $7,366.80 ($10.54/sq. ft.), commissioners said.
  • Approved a water, sewer, and irrigation quality water lines easement over county district park property in Boynton Beach to provide those services for an elementary school to be built on property located just south of Boynton Beach Boulevard between Acme Dairy Road and Lyons Road in western Boynton Beach. The school board is currently developing an elementary school with future plans to develop a middle school there, commissioners said.
  • Amended an agreement with the City of Belle Glade, to expand the scope of the project to include installation of guardrails and posts on SW 8th Street, and extend the expiration date to July 31.  Commissioners said the agreement provides the city $948,900 in 2004 Disaster Recovery Initiative Program funds for drainage improvements on SW 5th, 10th and 12th Streets, and on SW Avenues I and J. The residents along SW 10th Street objected to guardrails being installed in front of homes.  To address this concern, an alternative high profile curb and associated sidewalk is being installed and the surplus guardrails and posts will instead be installed on the east side of SW 8th Street between the roadway and an abutting canal in order to provide a safety barrier.
