Jennifer Freeland is amazed at how the community has turned out to help her little niece who is fighting cancer.

“People are really reaching out,” she told the Boca Raton News.

On March 3, Kailyn Mooklal, age 3 ½, was diagnosed with favorable stage 3 kidney cancer. She said a Wilms Tumor was growing through her left kidney.

“She had her kidney removed on March 5 and has been in and out of the hospital since then, with various treatments to make her well again,” Jennifer said.

The little girl has completed seven radiation treatments and is undergoing her third chemotherapy session.

“She is a brave little girl and has had to endure so much in such a short period of time,” said her Aunt Jennifer.  “She will continue to go to Joe DiMaggio's to receive the chemo once a week on Tuesday's for a total of 15 treatments.”

A special event to help the little girl and her family is planned Friday, May 16 at 6 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Boca Raton. “There will be shopping, raffles, silent auction, chair massage, a bake sale and more,” said Jennifer. All proceeds go to the family.

She said Kailyn attends MECE - the preschool program at First United Methodist Church in Boca Raton, and the parents of one of the children in her class owns Twister Gymnastics, where a fundraiser was held earlier this year.

Members of First United Methodist, Spanish River Church and other friends and families have been coming together to bring meals to the family three nights per week, “which has been a huge blessing,” Jennifer said.

“The next few months will be hard as we continue to watch the negative side effects take a toll,” Jennifer said. “But I know that God is giving her the strength she needs to beat this tumor - as Kailyn would say, "Get out of here, tumor."

Jennifer said information about her niece’s condition is available by visiting www.KailynsStory.com.
