MARILYN ELIZABETH JOHNSON

Marilyn Elizabeth Johnson – Passed away on March 6th 2008 at the Delray Beach Medical Center. She was 76 years of age. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 21th 1931. She married Raynard A. Johnson on August 6th 1949 and in 1965 they moved to Boca Raton. Marilyn, a teacher in Illinois began teaching in Lantana. In their first year of marriage, Raynard completed his bachelor’s degree at Florida Atlantic University and began teaching at the J. C. Mitchell Elementary School. They each earned their MEd and EdS degrees in time from Florida Atlantic University.  Marilyn taught at Gulf Stream School for several years, becoming the Head of the Lower School. After leaving Gulf Stream, she taught at Spady Elementary School for one year, then transferred to Boca Raton Elementary School. She was the Assistant Principal there until her retirement.
Her interests went well beyond her teaching responsibilities. She and the family travelled extensively during the summer vacations including a two month camping trip with her family to Alaska, spending only one night in a motel. She visited all fifty states, many of the provinces of Canada and much of Mexico as well as two trips to Europe. For the past ten years we shared our time between Boca Raton and Franklin, North Carolina. Marilyn had a deep interest in the Daughters of the Revolution and many other patriotic organizations, having been a Regent of many of them. She devoted much time to quilting and other creative activities, belonging to several quilting and community groups in both places. Marilyn is survived by two children, her son, Scott (deceased), her daughter Jamie and her granddaughter  Carlie Rae Moore who resides in Margate, Florida.  A Memorial Service will take place on Tuesday March 11, 2008 between 6 and 8 pm at the Kraeer Funeral Home 1353 North Federal Highway in Boca Raton.
