Schappert third at Spanish River Invitational
NEWS STAFF REPORTS
Pope John Paul II sophomore Stephanie Schappert placed third in the 1A-2A race at the Spanish River High Invitational, 48 seconds behind winner Meredith Anderson of Benjamin. Wellington's Ashley Brasovan won the 3A-4A race easily in a time of 17:53.91.
Spanish River was fourth in the 3A-4A girls' team standings and Benjamin placed fifth in the 1A-2A girls' competition.
Park Vista, led by Justin Booker (17th place), claimed the runner-up trophy in the boys' 3A-4A meet that Miami Ferguson won. The Boca Raton boys were sixth, beating out St. Thomas Aquinas.

Swimming
American Heritage-Delray junior Paul Murray won the 50-yard freestyle (21.55) and the 100-yard freestyle (47.33) at the 45th annual Woodson Invitational at Pine Crest School Saturday.
Pine Crest's girls won their third consecutive Woodson title with 536 points. Boca Raton, the defending Class 2A state champion, was second with 377.50 points.
For the boys, Boca Raton (209 points) was fourth. Belen Jesuit won with 376 points.
Murray won the Andy Coan award as top male swimmer. Boca's Alex Boettcher was second to Murray in both events.
Boca Raton competed without two of its top boys swimmers, Stephen Czaja, who was on a college recruiting visit, and Sean Grady, who was sick.
